Beschrijving

Voormalige basisschool de Wilhelminaschool, plaatselijk welbekend als ‘School met den Bijbel’, hetgeen met grote letters op de gevel staat. De school werd in 1884 gevestigd in de Hogestraat in Aalten, wat later gebouw ‘Irene’ werd, en verhuisde rond 1935 naar de Stationsstraat. Vele generaties Aaltenaren zijn hier naar school geweest.

Tegenwoordig is het pand in gebruik als B&B.

Hello, I am writing from Canada. My mother attended the Wilhelmina school from around 1940 – 1947 before immigrating to Canada in 1947. I have heard many great stories of her years there. I was hoping there would be more information about the Wilhelmina school since so many residents of Aalten attended it. For example, I understand that for a time the school was taken over during the War by the Nazis as an office. I have a picture of my mother sitting in a classroom here in the 1940s with her brother. Would you be able to point to another site where there is information about the school? Thanks for any help you can provide. Ron
