Farmsteads in Haart

Inhabitants of the rural district of Haart are said to live ‘op de Hoart’ (‘on the’ instead of ‘in’, in the local dialect). One possible meaning attributed to the name is ‘a woodland where timber was permitted to be felled’.

De Haart is situated on an elevated part of the landscape and is surrounded by several essen (elevated open fields), located between Aalten, Bredevoort, Heurne, the Winterswijk municipal border, and the German border.

Listed below are the farms currently known to us. For a comprehensive overview including the (development of) house numbering since 1823, click here.
